Some players who were still eating breakfast immediately ran out. When they saw the seven-person group had left in five cars, they were shocked—three of those cars even had only one person inside.

Those five cars could easily have fit all twenty-plus people if everyone had squeezed in, yet they all drove away. Clearly the seven didn’t care at all about the other players’ welfare. The players who had run out felt they were being selfish; even if they didn’t know each other, there was no reason to refuse to help. Watching the cars speed away, some players showed shock and anger on their faces.

“They took off in five cars,” Yi Xinming said, standing up and looking out the window. Some players chased after them from behind, shouting for them to stop, as if hoping the group would have the decency to give them a ride. Not a single car stopped—in fact, they seemed to accelerate.

Sitting back down, Yi Xinming had a faint, indifferent smile at the corner of his mouth.

Compared to the anger of other players being abandoned, Yi Xinming found this situation perfectly normal. This was not the real world; no one required everyone to help one another. Besides, people here had lives in their hands, and if someone truly helped, you might even have to worry whether they had ulterior motives.

“Only five cars in total?” Kang Lian cared about that.

Yi Xinming suddenly smiled again and said, “True, maybe there are other cars.”

Other players had noticed the same problem, so they began to walk in the direction the cars had driven off to see if any were left; if luck was on their side, even one remaining car would do.

Obviously, the group of seven had been ruthless — not a single car was left.

Those who had left returned soon after, heads hanging low.

The hot springs to be checked in at were tens of kilometers away; walking there was out of the question. Setting aside whether they’d make it in time, the main issue was that no one could guarantee they would travel safely along the way.

Not many of the players looked pleased; there had been a death last night—someone who hadn’t eaten dinner had died unexpectedly—and today it seemed like something else was bound to happen.

But this game couldn’t be exited freely; aside from beating it, there was no way for them to escape.

Nan Sheng knew the seven had taken the car—he’d known since last night. They’d found the vehicle first, moved it, hidden it away, and after breakfast they drove it off. They didn’t mind other players seeing the car as long as they got to keep it; after all, few of the remaining players were likely to become a real threat. From the seven’s point of view, anyone trying to compete with them was still too inexperienced.

Nan Sheng didn’t stop them; on the contrary, he was pleased to see it. It fit his expectations—previous people who’d cleared this game tended to be cooperative and friendly, which made the later checkpoint stages go smoothly. It was better for the game if players quarreled; that would only make things more interesting.

On this point Nan Sheng would only stand quietly to the side, but if anything threatened Qi Yang, he wouldn’t just stand there.

“What do we do? There’s no car—do we really have to walk there?” Kang Lian feared time wouldn’t be enough.

Failing the first check-in—this gap from the previous game was simply too big to accept, and Kang Lian struggled to come to terms with it.

Qi Yang finished his meal unhurriedly and wiped his mouth with a napkin. Everyone at the table looked at him; his gaze met Yi Xinming’s and then Kang Lian’s in turn. As for the other man who’d shown up uninvited, Qi Yang didn’t bother to spare him a glance.

“Let’s start walking; maybe we’ll get lucky and find a car on the way.” Qi Yang was very optimistic. He believed the game wouldn’t cause the remaining dozen or so of them to miss the cue just because they couldn’t find a car. If that were the case, the person who set up this game segment would either be inhuman or severely lacking in reasoning.

“What if we don’t find one?” Kang Lian still couldn’t let go.

“Then we have no choice but to walk. What else can we do?” Qi Yang’s tone remained calm; his composure made Kang Lian feel her anxiety was especially unnecessary.

Kang Lian gave a faint, bitter smile, as if resigned: “True, no amount of rushing will help. A car isn’t going to fall from the sky for us. Those people went too far—not even one vehicle left for us.”

“The rules of the human world don’t apply here.” Qi Yang rose and murmured.

Kang Lian looked up at Qi Yang; he had already turned and was walking outside. She stood frozen for a few seconds, then followed him, trailing a few steps behind the others. Her eyes were downcast. She knew this wasn’t the real world, but the habit of thinking that way wasn’t easy to change overnight—yet in her heart she understood that she might have to learn to adjust.

Qi Yang and the others walked out of the restaurant. A few people were standing outside, still discussing how to get to the hot springs. They had no transport; relying on their legs alone to cover dozens of kilometers would take an hour or two even if they ran. They might be exhausted by then, and if there were other obstacles at the hot springs preventing them from checking in immediately, what would they do? The group couldn’t come to a decision.

Noticing Qi Yang and the others coming out, one of the players who had seen them in the hallway last night called out to them.

“Hey, are you really going to walk there? Aren’t you getting a car?”

“Do you see any cars nearby?” Yi Xinming replied.

“Look around, maybe there are,” the man said, still clearly hopeful.

“You look, then—we’re leaving.” Yi Xinming didn’t think there were any cars left; the seven people had taken five vehicles. Yesterday they had been out for a long time, probably searching for cars nearby. If there had been extras, they would have hidden them, so the most likely situation was that there were only those five.

“Walk? Dozens of kilometers—don’t be ridiculous!” Player Yang Jiang stared at Qi Yang and the others, his expression as if he thought they had all gone mad.

Qi Yang cut in before Yi Xinming could speak again: “There won’t be any cars here; maybe we’ll find some along the way.”

“Let’s go.” Not wanting to waste time chatting with them, Qi Yang turned and walked.

“Wait…” Yang Jiang still wanted to call them back, but the four of them, including Nan Sheng, were moving very quickly.

Yang Jiang watched the four figures walking away. He tightened his brow. Someone beside him muttered softly that there probably wouldn’t be any cars around here. Yang Jiang bit his lip hard; it seemed he had no choice but to accept that fact.

“Alright, let’s go too,” Yang Jiang said helplessly.

Including Yang Jiang, several players thought the same: those seven had been pretty overbearing from the start — they’d taken the best rooms in the inn, grabbed dishes from the neighboring table during meals, and now they’d driven off with the car. No matter how you looked at them, they weren’t good people, so there was no point leaving a vehicle for them. Rather than stand around wasting time, it was better to head toward the hot springs first; if luck was on their side they might even come across a car along the way.

The few people gathered together, though not all fully acquainted before, had since reached out to one another. They noticed those in Qi Yang’s group, especially Qi Yang himself, the most handsome among them—so striking he seemed to have stepped out of a painting. Though he looked slight, he showed no hint of flinching in the face of the present danger; that calm and confidence made people feel that following him might turn peril into safety.

In times of crisis, the weak instinctively seek out some powerful support, whether physical or psychological.

Qi Yang noticed a few people trailing behind him; they were fast on their feet and, after a quick jog, caught up in just a few strides.

“Let’s go together; it’s easier to find a ride with more people.” Yang Jiang, who had just been resistant, changed his expression when he turned his head and put on a friendly smile. As the saying goes, you don’t hit a smiling face, and Qi Yang didn’t refuse.

As long as they don’t slow us down. If anything really happens later, these people might even be useful.

The original four-person team suddenly swelled; the people who joined later weren’t just paying lip service — they followed through. When they reached the fork in the road, they volunteered to take the other path, then went ahead to join Qi Yang and the others, splitting into two groups to search for the vehicle.

Qi Yang and the others continued forward. After maybe ten more minutes, Qi Yang felt he had no problem with stamina, but surprisingly Nan Sheng beside him suddenly suggested taking a two-minute break.

“Are you tired?” No matter how Qi Yang looked at him, he couldn’t imagine Nan Sheng, a man nearly 1.9 meters tall, getting exhausted after just a few steps.

Nan Sheng shook his head, his eyes full of concern: “I’m not tired, I’m afraid you’ll be.”

Qi Yang wanted to reach out and touch Nan Sheng’s forehead to see if he had a fever—otherwise, why was he saying things he couldn’t understand?

“If you’re tired, rest here. Xin Ming and the others and I will go ahead.” Qi Yang showed no expression. How had he not noticed Nan Sheng being so talkative? When he first met him, the man had hardly said a word and his body was ice-cold, a proper block of ice. In the game he seemed like a different person. Could it be that he had died long ago and been possessed by a spirit? The more Qi Yang thought about it, the more plausible it seemed, and suspicion crept into his eyes.

“Then let’s go.” Nan Sheng didn’t say it directly; he was worried that this pregnant husband Qi Yang might get tired from walking too long.

Qi Yang and the others walked ahead. Nan Sheng had originally been beside Qi Yang, but gradually fell back until he was alone at the rear. No one among the three in front noticed him. Nan Sheng turned his head and glanced down a side path to the right—there was a ghost hiding there that had been following them since the restaurant. Nan Sheng slightly raised his hand and made a gesture; when the ghost saw it, it immediately turned and went to carry out Nan Sheng’s order.

The few who had taken the wrong path circled back and rejoined Qi Yang and the others. They didn’t hide their disappointment; after searching the area they found no vehicles, not even a single wheel—apparently they’d really have to walk those several dozen kilometers.

The group moved on. The mood in the line was heavy. After another twenty minutes or so, Nan Sheng kept watching Qi Yang from the rear; if Qi Yang started to feel unwell, he wanted to be the first to rush forward. He even found himself hoping Qi Yang would faint so he could go carry him. He didn’t know that in the game Qi Yang was only pretending to pass out—after walking for more than half an hour and then fainting, Qi Yang’s constitution wasn’t that poor.

“…Qi Yang, look over there. Isn’t there a car?” Yi Xinming was the first to notice a patch of tall bushes not far off, and it seemed there was a car behind them.

Qi Yang followed the direction of Yi Xinming’s finger and looked over. His eyesight was still good, and he confirmed that it was a vehicle — not a small car, but a large passenger bus.

“I’ll go check.” Yi Xinming’s face lit up instantly; in his heart he felt that being with Qi Yangzi was definitely the right choice. This person really brought good luck. He attributed the arrival of the bus to Qi Yang—he didn’t know the bus would be there; it was indeed because of Qi Yang.

Nan Sheng didn’t want Qi Yang, who was pregnant, to get tired, so he specially arranged for a ghost to drive a car to wait there.

The ghost on the car vanished, and aside from the two ghosts involved, no one knew the truth.

Yi Xinming ran over. The other players became excited the moment they saw the car; some even ran faster than Yi Xinming and cut in front of him. One of them, overjoyed, opened the car door and climbed in. The keys were inside; with a gentle twist the accelerator ignited, and the roar of the engine sounded to the players’ ears like the most beautiful music in the world.

The man knew how to drive a passenger bus. After starting the engine he turned and fastened his seatbelt.

Yi Xinming climbed aboard the passenger bus from the side entrance and saw that the person who had run the fastest was already in the driver’s seat; by the way he sat, it was clear he knew how to drive.

While the other players were all happily celebrating, Yi Xinming carefully inspected the bus inside and out. After confirming there was nothing unusual, he returned to the driver’s side.

“Check the brakes.” This was very important—if the car started moving and the brakes failed, the whole carload of people would be in danger.

The player acting as driver nodded, slowly drove the coach forward, then tested the brakes.

The brakes were fine, very responsive. The coach drove out from the tall shrubs and pulled up in front of Qi Yang and the others. The door opened and the players waiting outside got on board one after another.

Qi Yang liked the window seat in the back; he went and sat there. Yi Xinming wanted to sit next to Qi Yang, but another man had longer legs and was quicker. By the time Yi Xinming tried to move, the seat beside Qi Yang was already taken. Yi Xinming frowned and stared at Nan Sheng — this guy’s intentions were a little too obvious. In the real world he had pursued Qi Yang and been rejected; now in the game he still wanted to chase Qi Yang. To Yi Xinming, Nan Sheng gave off exactly that impression.

This person didn’t appear to have anything particularly notable about him except for his face; Qi Yang probably wouldn’t find him appealing.

Yi Xinming sat diagonally opposite, watching Nan Sheng warily. Feeling Yi Xinming’s gaze, Nan Sheng turned his head; the kindness in his eyes vanished completely, replaced by a coldness even more frigid than a specter’s stare.

But it quickly shifted back. Yi Xinming was sure he hadn’t imagined it—this man was definitely not as simple as he appeared. He wondered whether Qi Yang realized that; if he didn’t, Yi Xinming felt compelled to warn him to be careful.

“Head to the hot springs?” someone asked after sitting down.

“If you’re not going to the hot springs, where else do you want to go?” Yang Jiang found that player’s remark utterly ridiculous.

“What about the people still over by the restaurant?” The player who looked familiar was clearly someone who thought a lot about others.

“They can find their own ride.” Another male player, pale and thin, said indifferently, his hands clasped behind his head. If those people wouldn’t come on their own and expected to wait until they found a car before leaving, well, that was their choice—and none of his business. Why should he worry for them?

The nice player, cornered by the two, wore a conflicted expression; no one else spoke, as if he were the only one thinking this way. With half the car present, he wasn’t confident he could convince them all. He bowed his head and nervously picked at his fingers.

Just as he thought no one would agree with his suggestion, a gentle female voice spoke up. The player immediately looked toward her, and when he saw a delicate, refined face, his heart gave a sudden jolt.

“We’ve only been out for about half an hour, it doesn’t seem long. Now that there’s a car, the return trip should only take a little while. If they really can’t find a car and can’t check in on time, they might even lose their lives…” As soon as Kang Lian voiced the thought, the atmosphere in the car changed. She hurriedly stopped talking; her whole face flushed red, and she even wanted to hide her face. What right or status did she have to arrange this car?

Not long ago, Qi Yang had reminded her to keep the game and the real world separate, and yet she had just turned around and caused trouble for everyone. Her heart was uneasy—she feared Qi Yang would disapprove of her, or that later he and the others would no longer accept her as a teammate.

“Drive back and pick up the others,” Qi Yang said to everyone in the car.

Someone immediately objected, “No way, that would take too long, and besides, they might have already found a car and left.”

“Or maybe they’re not at the restaurant; they went elsewhere to look for the car.”

“This car was found by Yi Xinming. If it weren’t for him, none of us would have a ride. You can choose to get out and find another one; I won’t stop you.” Qi Yang didn’t mind stating the fact.

“You…” The curly-haired player wanted to argue further, but Nansheng beside Qiyang watched him with a half-smile. The player shuddered violently; his whole body went cold as a bone-piercing chill crawled into his pores.

What Qi Yang said was indeed true: the car was something they had found, and they had the right to decide whether to go back to pick people up.

The player in the driver’s seat turned the car around; the way back was easy to find, with hardly any turns. They met other players along the way—apparently the restaurant had not found a car and had to leave—so without going all the way back to the restaurant they picked up the remaining players.

Qi Yang closed his eyes and rested in the car. After someone got in, they were overjoyed and made a couple of loud noises, but were met with several displeased glares; the noisy person immediately fell silent, then found an empty seat and hunched down like a little partridge.

The coach drove quietly along the road for about forty minutes. It wasn’t the highway—there were many curves and some rough patches—yet nothing went wrong. Finally the coach stopped at the destination: the entrance to a hot spring villa.

There were NPC staff waiting in the villa. After everyone got off, the staff guided them inside.

The five cars the seven people had driven were also parked outside, but no sign of them could be seen; the villa was eerily quiet, and the wind brushing past carried a faint metallic tang. The players moving inward grew alert and tense.

After winding around a few turns, their view suddenly opened up: an enormous hot spring pool, huge—about the size of a soccer field—and seven people standing at its edge.

The seven noticed the other players’ arrival, but the players’ gazes did not fall on them; everyone’s attention was drawn to the hot spring before them.

Or, to be more precise, they were horrified by it. It wasn’t a hot spring in any normal sense—it was a pool filled with fresh blood.

The pool was still steaming. Outside, the high walls had blocked most of the metallic smell, but as soon as one stepped inside the pungent odor of blood hit the nose, as if someone had just poured in fresh blood not long ago—the water was still warm.

A player, overwhelmed by the acrid stench, turned pale and collapsed by the wall, vomiting.

Qi Yang’s gaze was filled with crimson. The scene before him was beyond his expectations—this pool full of fresh blood. Qi Yang wondered how many people’s blood it had taken to fill the pool to this level.

Nearby, Nan Sheng watched Qi Yang stare at the pool without any fear; instead, his expression held a trace of surprise.
